Sigma Omicron Epsilon Sorority was founded on March 30th, 1997 at East Carolina University.
The vision to create an organization whose principles expand the culture of Native American People and support Education and
Unity of women was brought to light by seven motivated young women: Deidra Arlene Jacobs-Blanks, Jolena Bullard, Berna
Linette Chavis, Cabrina Lynne Cummings, Candance Holona Hammonds, Patrice Henderson, and Una Gail Locklear. These founders
respectfully represent the tribes of the Waccamaw Siouan and Lumbee. Through their vision, the organization of Sigma
Omicron Epsilon, Inc. has blossomed into a visionary organization, with women upholding the founding principles throughout
the state of North Carolina. ]
